Is it HOT or is it COLD?

This time we're goig to talk at pharase containing a pair of adjectives joined together by 'and', 'but', and 'or'. The examples may help us use the idioms correctly.

1. Ancient and modern: of past times and contemporary.
    *Thought history, both ancient and modern, people have been striving for power.

2. For better or (for) worse: whatever may happen in he future.
   * I promise to stick with you, for better or for worse.

3. Black and blue: disclored, as by bruising.
   * He was beaten up black and blue by his enemy.

4. Cut and dried: settled, decided
   * OK, so the matter about who is going to pay for the demages is now cut and dried.

5. Dead and gone: no longer existing
    * Poor old Kevin is now dead and gone for good.

6. Safe and sound: unharmed
    * You don't need to worry about Jack any more. He's safe and sound at my place.

7.  Young and old: without exception
    * Everybody, young adn old, took a part in the festivities.
